Mission statement
To preserve, protect and enhance our Bluegrass environment; to provide public infrastructure systems that are safe, efficient and economical; and to promote a healthy and sustainable quality of life for our citizens.
Building Inspection
Building Inspection's goal is to ensure safe construction of projects by enforcing the Kentucky Building Code.
Engineering
The Division of Engineering oversees the design and construction of capital infrastructure projects, ensures new development is compliant with the community’s standards, and manages permitting within the public right-of-way.
Environmental Services
Our division engages the public about environmental issues in our community. We work closely with Waste Management and Water Quality to support recycling and stormwater efforts in Lexington. We also manage sustainability initiatives and handle the beautification and maintenance of the city's green spaces and corridors.
Streets & Roads
Streets & Roads maintains all city and county roads, except those on the state and federal highway system.
Traffic Engineering
Traffic Engineering is responsible for the maintenance and daily operation of the city's computerized traffic control system, including first-line response for emergency signal repair.
Waste Management
The Division of Waste Management is not just about getting rid of things, it's about Lexington's quality of life, its health, and the look of our community.
Water Quality
The Division of Water Quality provides citizens of Lexington-Fayette County with wastewater treatment and stormwater management services.

Fayette County residents may bring up to five boxes or bags of dry material to be shredded at no cost.
