Streets & Roads and Water Quality treated and monitored roads overnight. Staff will continue with monitoring and treating efforts as needed. At 7:30 a.m., crews will report to begin removing snow and ice from city sidewalks.
Residents are reminded that extreme cold temperatures require additional precautions. The area is expected to face a wind chill of minus 5 in the morning. Wear multiple layers when going outside and limit exposed skin by wearing a hat, gloves and face coverings.
Between midnight and 5 a.m. this morning, the Lexington Police Department responded to five non-injury collisions, one injury collision, three traffic hazards and two calls for motorist assistance. Drivers are reminded that some roadways could be slick and to be especially careful on bridges and overpasses as they are typically the first driving surfaces to get slick.
The Office of Homelessness Prevention & Intervention Emergency Weather Plan remains in effect through the morning of Thursday, Jan. 18. The plan includes expanded shelter services and free transportation to shelters.
