The Department of Social Services operates three core divisions and three community engagement programs providing an array of multi-generational services, from the “cradle to the rocking chair.” The department also supports collaborative efforts with an existing network of local non-profit organizations and human services agencies.

FY24 – FY25 Nonprofit Capital Grant Program

The City of Lexington is once offered Fayette County 501 (c)(3) Nonprofits the opportunity to compete for capital grants for the Fiscal Years 2024 and 2025 beginning Aug. 31, 2023. The deadline for these Requests for Proposals was September 20, 2023.

The Fiscal Year 2024–2025 program was locally funded at $479.300.

Opioid Misuse Resource & Needs Assessment

The Substance Use Disorder Intervention Program, in consultation with the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, recently published the Opioid Misuse Resource & Needs Assessment. The assessment was designed to:

  • characterize impacts on health and behavioral health providers, first responders, and other services
  • identify the strengths of the service delivery system in response to the opioid epidemic
  • identify unmet needs or barriers to accessing available resources for individuals who misuse opioids

Donations sought for senior flood victims

Drive-through donations will be accepted Monday, Aug. 8 through Friday, Aug. 12, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Social service grants awarded to 35 agencies

The grants include $3.8 million for support in Community Wellness & Safety, Childhood & Youth Development, Food Insecurity & Nutritional Access and Overnight Emergency Shelter.

Tenants’ Rights Workshop

The workshop will take place on Wednesday, May 18 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and 5 – 7 p.m. at the Lexington Public Library Northside Branch.
