The Lexington Police Honor Guard Unit was formed in the 1980s by a small group of officers with military experience. It is currently comprised of officers that serve on a part-time basis. The primary function of the Honor Guard is to honor fallen officers, active and retired. The majority of assignments outside of funerals and visitations involve presenting the Colors during parades, conferences and division ceremonies.
Honor Guard School
Attention all Public Safety Guards:
The Lexington Honor Guard conducts a week-long school opportunity. The school is a 40-hour Kentucky Law Enforcement Council (KLEC) certified course that focuses on developing basic knowledge and proficiency with Honor Guard related assignments; military drills, parades, posting colors, firing party, casket guard, flag folding and concludes on Friday with an exercise that includes a simulated full honors funeral.
We welcome agencies from all over the state and region, including police, fire and corrections. We work hard to provide the highest level of training possible. Because of the direct nature of the instruction and the level of activity, class sizes are limited and on a first-come basis.
