LFUCG employees cannot change any medical or other benefit plans outside of Open Enrollment unless a change in family status or qualifying event occurs.
This rule is regulated by the IRS, which requires benefit elections to be determined in the prior calendar year.
Change in family status/qualifying events include:
- Marriage
- Birth
- Adoption or placement for adoption
- Death
- Divorce or legal separation
- Child ceasing to be an eligible dependent
- Loss of coverage elsewhere
IMPORTANT: If one of these events occurs, it is the responsibility of the employee to contact Human Resources within 30 days of the qualifying event to make changes to their medical or other benefits plans.
