The Lexington Fire Department proudly names Veterans Park Elementary fifth-grader Owen Ives as our 2024 Junior Fire Chief.
The Junior Fire Chief Program is one way the Lexington Fire Department Division of Community Services educates our community. Along with the Citizen's Fire Academy, hands-only CPR Classes, and fire extinguisher classes, the Lexington Fire Department places a high priority on educating Lexington residents. October is Fire Prevention Month and a busy month for the LFD, with truck visits reinforcing this year's fire prevention theme, "Smoke Alarms: Make them work for you."
"Fire prevention is the top priority for every fire department, and smoke alarms are the best tool to make your home safer by alerting you when smoke is detected," said Fire Chief Jason Wells. "Owen's poster and essay truly caught our attention."
Chief Jason Wells said, "Owen will represent the Lexington Fire Department while touring local businesses and landmarks, participating in media interviews, and attending meetings with me, the LFUCG council, and Mayor Gorton. Throughout these engagements, Owen can promote fire safety and share this important message with a broad audience."
