The city of Lexington will hold an Urban Growth Master Plan public hearing on Thursday, Oct. 17, at 1:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber of the Government Center.
The goal of the meeting is to gather public input for the Urban Growth Master Plan’s full draft for the purposes of adoption.
Public engagement is one of the most important aspects of the planning process, and for a project as important as the UGMP, the community's thoughts and voices are crucial. While the Oct. 17 hearing allows residents to comment in person, there are other ways to express opinions. The Master Plan can be found online at urbangrowthlex.com. Residents can leave comments or questions directly on the document or email them to imagine@lexingtonky.gov.
Lexington’s Division of Planning is leading the 2024 Urban Growth Plan process. Alongside Planning staff, the city has hired TSW Design as a consultant to help research and write the Master Plan.
"This plan is the culmination of an intense year-long project I’ve had the privilege of leading,” said Sam Castro from TSW Design. “By establishing a master plan for 2,800 acres with the potential to accommodate at least 17,000 new homes, the idea is to promote walkable neighborhoods while protecting and integrating greenways and open space throughout and providing a greater mix and variety of housing to make finding a home more attainable. By maximizing the land, we can also continue to protect Lexington's agricultural land."
