UPDATE: Newtown Pike Homicide Investigation Arrest

UPDATE – June 7, 2024: One person has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of Antonio Taylor that occurred on Newtown Pike.

Utilizing the Real-Time Intelligence Center and Flock license plate readers, detectives were able to identify the suspect as Shawnika Gill, 48.

Gill was arrested on June 7, 2024, in Hamilton County, Ohio, by the US Marshals Service Central KY Fugitive Task Force, the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

She is currently being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center on the charge of Murder awaiting extradition to Fayette County.

The Lexington Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred on Newtown Pike.

On June 4, 2024, around 4:40 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Newtown Pike for a shooting with a victim. When officers arrived, they located a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the victim.
