Regency Point Path Officers-Involved Shooting

UPDATE – April 15, 2024: The Kentucky State Police has authorized the Lexington Police Department to release the names and photos of the 3 officers involved in the officer-involved shooting that occurred April 2, 2024, on Regency Point Path.

The officers names, ranks, and length of service are as follows:

Officer Timothy Dawson

  • Length of Service: Retired from the Lexington Police Department after 19 years. Returned 8 months ago under the Police Officer – R Program.  
     

Officer Michael Martin

  • Length of Service: 10 months
     

Officer Seiver Tandy

  • Length of Service: 3 years
     

The incident is still being investigated by the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team, and the department’s Public Integrity Unit will conduct an internal review of the incident. Per policy, the involved officers were placed on administrative assignment pending the outcome of the investigation.

Three Lexington Police officers have been involved in an on-duty shooting.

At 12:24 a.m., on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Regency Point Path for a disorder with a weapon. When officers arrived, they observed the suspect with a firearm. Shots were fired the suspect was struck.

The suspect, a 47-year-old male, sustained serious injuries. Officers rendered aid and Emergency Care was summoned. He was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

No officers were shot.

In accordance with Lexington Police Department policies, the officers had their issued body-worn cameras (BWC) activated.

The incident is being investigated by the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team, and the department’s Public Integrity Unit will conduct an internal review of the incident. Per policy, the involved officers will be placed on administrative assignment pending the outcome of the investigation.
