Main Street Shooting Investigation

UPDATE: January 5, 2024 – Another person has been arrested, and detectives are looking for a third in connection with a shooting that occurred downtown on New Year’s Day. 

Jonneisheia Lewis, 33, was charged with Wanton Endangerment 1st degree, Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon, and Discharging a Firearm in City Limits. She is currently being held at the Fayette County Detention Center. 

Detectives are also asking for assistance locating Lavonne Smith, 30. Smith has an active warrant for Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon. 

Anyone with information or knowledge of Lavonne Smith’s whereabouts is asked to call the Lexington Police at (859) 258-3600. One person has been arrested following a shooting that took place downtown on New Year’s Day. 

On January 1, 2024, at 1:59 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 100 block of West Main Street for shots fired. While officers were on scene, a female victim suffering from a gunshot wound arrived at a local hospital with reported non-life-threatening injuries. During the investigation, detectives learned that the shooting stemmed from a disorder. 

Monteza Long, 24, was charged with Wanton Endangerment 1st degree and Discharging a Firearm in City Limits. She is currently being held at the Fayette County Detention Center.
