Local neighborhood grant to enhance corridors, now accepting applications

The Corridors Commission encourages local neighborhoods and other community-based groups to enhance Lexington’s corridors or roadways, through projects such as beautification, litter awareness and clean-ups, and repairs of dilapidated neighborhood features.

The Neighborhood Enhancement Match Grant Program opens on Sept. 1, accepting applications through Oct. 1. The grant program has $20,000 available to partner with the community to support the Corridors Commission in improving the city’s most traveled roadways.

There are 31 eligible corridors and grant proposals must be for areas that abut a corridor or is on a corridor. Applications should include activities that are open to the public and benefit the whole corridor. Consider the following activities for your grant proposal:

  • physical improvements for public or community property;
  • activities to plan, promote, or finance voluntary clean-ups and neighborhood improvement efforts;
  • activities to enhance the beauty of corridors by the removal of dead or diseased trees;
  • litter awareness, prevention and cleanup activities.

“These grants provide an opportunity for our community partners to make the statement that we care about our city and create a project that makes their neighborhood stand out,” said Councilman James Brown, Chair of the Commission.

The program is a 2:1 matching grant, which means for every $1 requested, the applicant must provide an additional $0.50 match.
