Heat prompts change in this week’s waste collection schedule

With a heat advisory in Lexington through Friday evening, the city’s Division of Waste Management will adjust its regular waste collection times.

Commercial pickups Thursday and Friday will begin at 3:30 a.m., while residential pickups on Thursday and Friday will start at 4:30 a.m. These times will reduce employees’ risk of heat-related issues such as dehydration and heat stroke by finishing all routes before temperatures peak.

Waste carts should be placed on the curb the night before collection to ensure service.
