May is National Bike Month. Local cycling enthusiasts, get ready – the second annual Lexington Bike Month rolls into motion starting today!
Bike Month celebrates riding a bicycle – for transportation, exercise and/or fun – while reminding drivers to slow down, pay attention and share the road.
The month-long celebration includes events hosted by the city and community partners.
The City will host two beginner-level commuter cycling courses and a Bike to Work breakfast during the month. Other events include a flat tire repair clinic and coffee social hours.
The marquee event of the month comes on Saturday, May 13, from 9 a.m. to noon, with the Lexington Area Metropolitan Organization’s second annual StreetFest. A portion of Oliver Lewis Way will be closed to allow people to bike, scoot, skate, jog or walk along the closed street. Activities will include a slow bike race and a hula hoop contest. Nearly 200 people attended the inaugural event.
