One Lexington accepting Gun Violence Prevention Grant applications

The City’s ONE Lexington program, in partnership with Community Action Council, has opened the application phase for the Gun Violence Prevention Grant program. The grant program is focused on providing community partners with resources to help prevent gun violence, based on the P.I.E.R. program model.

“I am so proud of our ONE Lexington team, and all the good they are doing for Lexington,” Mayor Linda Gorton said. “In partnership with the Community Action Council, this grant program will allow the work of ONE Lexington to expand to community partners to better serve our community and reduce gun violence.”

The P.I.E.R. program model is based on prevention, intervention, enforcement, and re-entry, and serves to support ONE Lexington’s mission to leverage government resources and community partnerships to reduce gun violence. Community organizations interested in a Violence Prevention Grant should provide services under the P.I.E.R. framework.

“As a Community Action agency, we are invested in helping our community be a place of safety and opportunity where people can thrive,” said Community Action Council Executive Director Sharon Price. “We know the best perspectives and innovative approaches will come directly from the community, so we are excited to partner with the City and ONE Lexington in this venture.”

The City allocated $50,000 to support the Gun Violence Prevention Grant Program. Recipients of grants will receive up to $7,500. Grant decisions will be made based on how well applications fit into one of the following tiers: messaging or community events, gun violence reduction programming, and comprehensive projects addressing the first two tiers.

“This funding opportunity will also be coupled with workshops and information that can help grassroots organizations expand their reach in the community,” ONE Lexington Director Devine Carama said. “As ONE Lexington moves out of a programmatic space and into more of a central hub for gun violence resources in the city, this grant program takes a huge step toward building the capacity of organizations that are on the frontlines, doing the work each and every day.”

Applications will be accepted until 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3. Interested organizations can apply at https://CommunityActionCouncil.formstack.com/forms/onelexington_grant_application. In addition, there will be a webinar to discuss the program and application from 3 – 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19. No prior registration is necessary for the webinar.
