University Avenue Shooting Investigation and Arrest

One person has been arrested following a shooting that occurred on University Avenue.

On September 7, 2022, at around 11:52 p.m., Lexington Police and University of Kentucky Police officers responded to the 200 block of University Avenue for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located a female suffering from a gunshot. Ten other individuals were transported to a local hospital for non-gunshot related injuries. All injuries are reported as non-life threatening.

Jason Almanza-Arroyo, 19, was arrested and charged with 1st degree Wanton Endangerment, 2nd degree Disorderly Conduct, 3rd degree Assault (communicable fluid), and Alcohol Intoxication in a Public Place.  

Almanza-Arroyo is currently detained at the Fayette County Detention Center. Two arrests, unrelated to the shooting, have also been made and additional charges are pending.
