Kite Fest returns to the skies this Saturday, April 23 at Masterson Station Park

Back by popular demand, Kite Fest returns to Lexington this Saturday, April 23, after a four-year hiatus. This year’s event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. at Masterson Station Park.

“Kite Fest has always been one of our more popular events, and it’s the perfect way to kick off our outdoor events season,” said Amber Luallen, Superintendent of Cultural Arts & Events for Parks & Recreation. “We’re excited to have it return to Lexington and give it room to grow at its new home in Masterson Station Park!”

The previous two years of Kite Fest were canceled due to the pandemic, and the events scheduled for 2018 and 2019 were both canceled due to weather.

Previously hosted at Jacobson Park, this year Kite Fest will take place at Masterson Station Park, which provides more space for activities and parking to accommodate the crowd. Parking is located across from the fairgrounds with the event taking place on the hill next to the playground. Attendees are invited to enjoy a dance party, games, airbrush tattoos, bounce houses, and even be able to fly through the air with an aerial arts workshop. Snacks and food will be available for purchase from a variety of local vendors, but attendees are also welcome to bring their own picnics. Kites will be available for purchase for those that don’t have one to fly.

Parks & Recreation, a division of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, oversees the programming, maintenance, and development of over 100 city parks and natural areas, six pools, five golf courses, community centers, recreational programs, and three arts venues.
