Focus is on treating neighborhood roads today

City crews have been working continuously since yesterday treating roads. Treatment today will focus on neighborhood roads with crews working in reverse order, starting with Rank 4 neighborhood collector streets. Residents can view a map of ranked roads on the city’s website at lexingtonky.gov/snowupdates.

Low temperatures are slowing the melting properties of salt and additives. This will improve early this afternoon with sunlight and rising temperatures. Sunday’s warmer temperatures and the previously spread salt will help with treatment. As of Saturday morning, nearly 1,000 tons of salt has been used. Crews are plowing where possible, however low snowfall totals and packed snow from driving limit the effectiveness of plowing.

Tonight, staff from Streets & Roads and Water Quality will be responding to calls for slick spots and spot treating ranked roads as needed.

Between 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. today, the Lexington Police Department has responded to 20 non-injury collisions and two injury collisions.
