Throughout the day today, City crews have continued work on priority routes in accordance with the City’s snow plan. Sub-freezing temperatures continue to impact our crews, equipment, and the ability of chemicals to melt the ice and snow. Crews are actively plowing treated roads and many are down to the bare pavement. Treatment efforts will continue through the night and around the clock until all ranked roads have been treated. The focus tomorrow will turn to neighborhood streets.
As the sun goes down and temperatures drop, drivers are advised to continue to drive slowly and be alert for the possibility of black ice forming. Black ice – water that refreezes – can form on previously treated roadways.
The Lexington Police Dept. has resumed the reporting of non-injury collisions in Fayette County. If you were involved in a collision that occurred prior to noon today, you should file a civilian collision report online.
Since 5 a.m., the Lexington Police Department has responded to eight non-injury collisions, three injury collisions, three motorist assists, and 17 traffic hazards.
On Saturday, Jan. 8, Waste Management will service downtown, emergencies and any Thursday pick-ups that weren’t completed because of weather. The Free Trash Disposal Day planned for Saturday, Jan. 8 will be rescheduled for a later date.
Dunbar Community Center will be closed Saturday, Jan. 8. The Charlotte Court Youth Basketball League games scheduled for Saturday are canceled.
Raven Run Nature Sanctuary will remain closed on Saturday, Jan. 8. As a result, the Owl Prowl event scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 8 is canceled.
With the cold weather, residents are reminded that prolonged exposure to dangerously cold temperatures can put pets in danger. Emergency Weather Plan
The Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention’s Community Emergency Winter Weather plan has been activated and will remain so through the morning of Saturday, Jan. 8 due to the cold temperatures. Catholic Action Center is partnering with Lighthouse Ministry to provide shelter through 10 a.m. Saturday. Lighthouse is located at 190 Spruce St. For a list of all available shelters and transportation services, as well as other resources, visit uwbg211.org.
