Police Community Services Unit

At the core of the Lexington Police Department’s mission and values is a commitment to serving the community. Currently under the organizational arm of the Bureau of Special Operations, the Community Services Unit coordinates a variety of programs designed to provide both information and involvement for residents.

Youth programs

 

  • Police Explorer Post #357
    • Instructional program for boys and girls ages 14 – 21 who have an interest in law enforcement 

 

  • Safety City
    • Educational program for children, generally in second grade
    • Traffic and pedestrian safety
    • Kid-sized roadway with mini cars and traffic signals

Citizen Police Academy

  • Free 10-week program designed to foster better communication between citizens and police through education
  • A different area of the department is covered each week with subject matter experts and demonstrations
  • Open to residents age 18 and older who live or work in Fayette County

Neighborhood Watch

  • Information about how to organize a neighborhood watch
  • Training on what suspicious activity to look for and report

Crime free multi-housing program

  • Crime prevention training for apartment managers, landlords and residents of rental property 
  • Solutions-oriented approach to drugs and other illegal activity
