Imagine Nicholasville Road – September 2024

Did you know there is already a plan to fix Nicholasville Rd? It's called Imagine Nicholasville Road! This plan is not just a concept. This project was launched in late 2019 and will fix one of Lexington's busiest corridors, from Brannon Crossing to downtown. In this video, I interview Christopher Evilia (Director of Lexington Area Metropolitan Planning Organization) and Kenzie Gleason (Assistant Director) about what has already taken place, what is happening now, and what is to come. It is important to remember that these long-term state KYTC (Kentucky Transportation Cabinet) projects take 10-15 years from conception to construction. We are currently on year five of Imagine Nicholasville Road.

In the last five years, the Lexington Area Metropolitan Planning Organization has held in-person sessions, gathered public input and released a survey that received over five thousand entries. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is evaluating all that information and data analysis and is currently doing a technical study to develop three design concepts. Those options will be presented in about nine months. We’ll then ask for more input from the public on what they’d like to see and gather their feedback on the three options. Eventually, the work on Nicholasville Road will be implemented in six sections.
