Annual Week of Valor honors veterans

Starting Saturday, Nov. 4, Lexington will begin celebrating its annual Week of Valor, a week of events dedicated to military veterans.

“The Week of Valor is an important part of our community,” Mayor Linda Gorton said. “As a member of a military family, I understand the importance of supporting our service members and their families, both while they are serving, and after they have left the military. The Week of Valor is the perfect opportunity for our community to honor and thank our veterans for their service.”

Veterans Resources United of Central/Southeastern Kentucky (VRUCK), the Kentucky National Association of Black Veterans (NABVETS), Lady Veterans Connect, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), the Lexington VA Health Care System, and several other organizations come together to plan events, this year from Nov. 4 – 11.

“VRUCK, NABVETS and Lady Veterans Connect it is very important to not only recognize and honor all veterans for their service, but also thank the National Guard, reservists, and the men and women who are presently deployed, protecting and defending the freedoms we hold so dear,” said Phyllis Abbott, Executive Director of Lady Veterans Connect.

This year marks several important military milestones, including the 245th birthday of the Department of the US Navy and the 75th anniversary of the signing of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act. Events scheduled for the Week of Valor include a Lady Veterans Connect Gala, VA5K race, NABVETS Dinner, and more. Details in the attached flyer.
