Brigadoon Parkway at Nicholasville Road is becoming a right-in, right-out intersection to improve safety and traffic flow. The changeover is scheduled to take place early in the week of November 5.
When the project is completed, there will be no left turn from Brigadoon Parkway onto Nicholasville Road and no left turn from Nicholasville Road onto Brigadoon Parkway. Left turns and U-turns are permitted at the signaled intersections on either side of Brigadoon Parkway, at Nicholasville Road and East Reynolds Road and at Nicholasville Road and Dundee Drive.
“We’re pleased to team up with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and the Fourth District Council office to improve safety on one of Lexington’s busiest roads before the holidays,” says Nancy Albright, Lexington’s Commissioner of Environmental Quality and Public Works. “Coordinating a project that involves state and city roads can be complicated, but our partners have been great to work with, and we’re happy to see this project implemented.”
This change will improve traffic safety by reducing the number of vehicles crossing traffic and preventing improper use of the center turn lane on Nicholasville Road. In addition, this change will allow more cars to safely line up in the left turn lane from northbound Nicholasville Road (toward downtown) onto East Reynolds Road.
The majority of work for this project will be completed overnight. Work is planned to begin on Nicholasville Road at 8 p.m., Sunday, November 5. The center turn lane and one adjacent lane in each direction of Nicholasville Road will be closed.
All lanes of Nicholasville Road will reopen to traffic by 6 a.m., Monday, November 6. Any remaining work on Brigadoon Parkway will be completed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday, November 6.
In the event of inclement weather, the project may be delayed to later in the week, but will follow the same overnight schedule.
This project is a cooperative effort between the City of Lexington and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, with funding assistance from Lexington’s Fourth Council District office and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet - District 7.
