West New Circle Road Officer-Involved Shooting

Three Lexington Police officers have been involved in an on-duty shooting. One officer has been shot, and another individual has been transported to the hospital.

Around 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, officers located a vehicle associated with a robbery in the 400 block of West New Circle Road. During the course of the investigation, the driver accelerated the vehicle towards the officers, who fired their weapons, striking the driver.

One officer was transported to the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.  Officers rendered first aid to the driver before being transported to the hospital. The driver is in stable but critical condition.

In accordance with Lexington Police Department policies, the officers had their issued Body Worn Cameras activated.

The incident is being investigated by the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team, and the department's Public Integrity Unit will conduct an internal review of the incident. As per policy, the officers will be placed on administrative assignment pending the outcome of the investigation.
