Labor Day Weekend and UK Game Day Traffic Advisory

The Lexington Police Department is issuing a traffic advisory and tips ahead of a busy Labor Day Weekend in Lexington, which includes the start of the UK Football season. 


Labor Day Weekend 

This weekend, there are several events taking place in Lexington. To help you make it to your destination safely, the Lexington Police Department wants to remind motorists to drive responsibly and not drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. 

With more people out on the roads, allow extra time to reach your destination. Be alert while driving and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. Drivers should expect heavier vehicle and pedestrian traffic. 

"We want everyone to have a safe Labor Day Weekend," said Lt. Jeremiah Davis of the Lexington Police Department Traffic Section. "There are several events in Lexington this weekend, and we are asking drivers to allow extra time to make it to their destination and use caution while driving." 


UK Football Game Day Traffic 

The first home UK Football Game will be on Saturday, September 2. The Lexington Police Department will have officers and personnel assisting with traffic before and after the game. Anyone traveling in the area should use caution and expect heavier vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Please follow all directions given by officers and obey all posted traffic signs and signals. Pedestrians should also follow all directions given and posted signage.  

Drive responsibly, and have a sober driver. Do not drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. 


No Parking Zones for Football Games

Lexington Police Department and the University of Kentucky Police Department are implementing a no-parking rule for several streets on and near campus.

Parking restrictions during UK football game dates will be enforced from 6 a.m. on Saturday until 6 a.m. on Sunday. Any vehicle in violation will be towed. 

The following streets will be no parking areas: 

  • Crescent Avenue (entire street)
  • State Street (entire street) 
  • University Avenue (entire street) 
  • Elizabeth Street from Waller Avenue to Conn Terrace 
  • Elizabeth Street from Waller Avenue to Floral Park 
  • Forest Park Road (entire street) 
  • Floral Park (entire street) 
     

All parking ordinances, including a prohibition on parking in yards, will be enforced.
