Lexington will once again serve as the host city for the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies on August 26 and 27, Mayor Linda Gorton said today.
“It’s great that the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame is holding its events in our city,” Gorton said. “We work hard to make Lexington as veteran-friendly as possible … that includes effectively ending veteran homelessness, creation of our Commission on Veterans Affairs, having the City’s first Veterans Liaison in the Mayor’s Office, and working with the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame. As a military spouse with two children in military families, it is important to me that our city is an open, caring and supportive environment for our veterans.”
The 2022 Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies will be held at 6 p.m., August 26, and 10 a.m., August 27, at the Lexington Griffin Gate Marriott Resort & Spa, 1800 Newtown Pike. Tickets are required for the August 26 banquet. A limited number of tickets are available by visiting kyveterans.org.
The Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame was created in 2010 by Vietnam Veteran, Founder and Executive Director H.B. Deatherage. The organization is committed to recognizing veterans’ military service and, even more, to honoring their continued service to the community following their military careers. Since 2014, there have been induction classes each year, with more than 200 veterans having been inducted into the hall of fame.
“Being in Lexington is like a dream come true,” Deatherage said. “It’s exactly what the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame needed. We are also excited to install a Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame monument in Lexington.”
Planning is underway to install a monument dedicated to Fayette County inductees into the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame.
This year’s induction class includes 29 individuals from across the state. Of those, two are from Fayette County: Brigadier General (Retired) Ben Adams III and Corporal Roy Hall. Including this year, a total of 16 Fayette County residents are members of the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame.
