Truck-a-Palooza (TaP), the city’s annual touch-a-truck event, will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, between 10 a.m. and noon at 1631 Old Frankfort Pike. The event is open to all ages and is free to the public.
Attendees will have the rare opportunity to view more than 20 city trucks, including units from the Department of Environmental Quality and Public Works and the Fire Department. New this year, adult attendees can learn about careers available with the city, talk to folks in those positions, and apply for jobs on-site.
“We are thrilled to offer residents the chance to explore city trucks and interact with the drivers who do so much to keep Lexington running smoothly,” says Environmental Quality and Public Works Commissioner Nancy Albright. “Youngsters – and those young at heart – will find the day fun and educational.”
Attendees can check out the view from the driver’s seat of a Waste Management truck, learn how the department uses a bucket truck and walk through the Fire Department’s smoke trailer. Drivers will be on hand to answer questions. Some will perform “road-eo” demonstrations at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
There will be a pre-event sensory hour from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. designed to enable those affected by loud noises and stressful public situations to enjoy Truck-a-Palooza.
In addition to the trucks, Truck-a-Palooza will feature a scavenger hunt, kids’ activities, games and more.
Spanish interpreters will be available throughout the event.
Refreshments will be available for purchase. Attendees should enter via Jimmie Campbell Dr.
