The City hit the streets this weekend with a door-to-door canvassing campaign to urge people to get a COVID-19 vaccine, Mayor Linda Gorton said today.
“We’re leaving no stone unturned,” Gorton said. “Overall, nearly 60% of our adults have been vaccinated. We’re proud of that progress, but we want to get more shots into arms, especially those of young people.”
Canvassers started their work in neighborhoods along Versailles Road this week, taking the message door to door. “Throughout the pandemic, we’ve maintained a focus on underserved neighborhoods to ensure those neighbors had access first to COVID-19 tests, and now to the COVID-19 vaccine.
Canvassers are urging all Lexington residents, age 12 and over, to get a vaccine. A mobile clinic will be set up near Versailles Road neighborhoods at Centro de San Juan Diego, 1389 Alexandria Dr., to offer free vaccines from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Sunday, June 6. There are many free vaccine clinics in Lexington. For more information visit lexingtonky.gov/vaccines.
Volunteers are invited to join the canvassers as they make their way around Lexington. For more information, email Quin Welch in the Mayor’s Office.
