Second annual StreetFest rolls into motion on May 13

The Lexington Area Metropolitan Planning Organization will host its second annual StreetFest between 9 a.m. and noon on Saturday, May 13, 2023. StreetFest celebrates streets as shared, public spaces.

Oliver Lewis Way between West High Street and South Broadway will be closed to traffic during the event to allow the public to bike, scoot, skate, jog, skip or walk freely on the mile-long, car-free loop.

“The public right of way is the largest space we own as a community. StreetFest reminds us that the public right of way is for all modes of travel - for all people of all ages and ability,” said Scott Thompson, Bike and Pedestrian Coordinator for the Lexington Division of Planning.

The event will also feature a bounce house, giant bubbles, sidewalk chalk, hula hoops and more.

Free bike tune-ups will be available. Youth bikes will be available to check out from the city on a first-come, first-serve basis. This bicycle library is made possible thanks to a Paula Nye grant, funded through the Share the Road license plates.

Structured activities include:

  • 9:30 a.m. – hula hoop contest
  • 10:30 a.m. – slow bike race
  • 11:30 a.m. – cycling obstacle course

Food and drink will be available for purchase from Bella's Mini Donuts.

As long as conditions are safe, StreetFest is a rain or shine event. Weather delays or cancellations will be posted on StreetFest | Facebook.
