Art on the Town in Tandy Park joins Gallery Hop

Art on the Town in Tandy Park will join LexArts Gallery Hop on Friday, May 19, for a celebration of art, food, and music downtown.

Featuring live music, local food venders, and the works of local artists and craftspeople who participate in the city’s Art on the Town program, Art on the Town in Tandy Park takes place from 5 – 9 p.m. on the third Friday of every month through Friday, Oct. 20. On May 19, Gallery Hop, an evening when dozens of galleries and studios open their doors to visitors, is also underway downtown.

“These events allow our residents and visitors to come together to enjoy and support everything our talented and diverse arts community has to offer,” Mayor Linda Gorton said.

On May 19, Art on the Town at Tandy Park will feature guitarist Ben Lacy, chalk artists who will be creating artwork in the park, and food by Bryant’s Red Hots.

“We are so delighted to offer these events that not only showcase our local visual artists and craftspeople, but that will also present a diverse range of local musicians and musical genres as well,” said Heather Lyons, Lexington Director of Arts and Cultural Affairs. “We are fortunate to have wonderful individual artists in our community, and we are excited to present them at Art on the Town in Tandy Park!”

Lexington’s Art on the Town program provides mobile art carts to local artists in downtown Lexington to sell or demonstrate their work. Art on the Town artists include painters, printmakers, jewelers, woodworkers, fiber artists, basket makers, garden artists and creators of natural soaps and lotions.

Kentucky artists are invited to submit an application to participate in the Art on the Town program. Upon submission of an application, interested artists will be contacted by Lyons. Once added to the roster, artists may schedule carts at no cost.
