Council rejects bid for new city hall

The Urban County Council today voted to reject a bid the City received in February to build a new city hall.

“The Council agreed that this particular proposal would not ultimately be in the best interest of the government,” Mayor Linda Gorton said.

The bid was a “P3” proposal – a public-private partnership that is a contractual agreement between a public agency, in this case the City, and a private entity, for example a developer.

“We will look at other options,” she said. “There are many demands on city revenue. When we make a decision that involves significant resources, we must weigh it against other needs and consider how best to serve the public. In this case, the numbers did not add up.”
