Celebrate local creeks during 2nd Annual Water Week

Lexington is kicking off spring by celebrating Water Week from March 21 – 27. Join us for a week of virtual and self-guided activities for all ages, abilities and interests. Water Week helps the community form connections to local waterways and encourages everyone to take steps to improve and protect water quality.

Water Week activities include geocaching, storm drain stenciling, litter cleanups and at-home activities such as a water-related reading list, stencil templates and coloring sheets. There is also a virtual 5k run/walk to benefit streamside tree planting with Reforest the Bluegrass.

Creek Sweep litter cleanup kits will be available throughout the week at several parks. Kits contain trash bags and gloves so that a household can have their own litter cleanup at a nearby park, backyard creek or in their neighborhood.

Litter cleanup kits will be available from noon – 6 p.m. in the following dates and locations:

  • Sun 3/21 at Pleasant Ridge Park, 1350 Pleasant Ridge Dr
  • Mon 3/22 at Stonewall Park, 3205 Cornwall Dr
  • Tues 3/23 at Castlewood Park, 201 Castlewood Dr
  • Wed 3/24 at Wolf Run Park, 1618 Maywick View Lane
  • Thurs 3/25 at Veterans Park, 650 Southpoint Dr., Shelter #1
  • Fri 3/26 at Mt. Tabor Park, 550 Elk Lake Dr.
  • Sat 3/27 at Meadowthorpe Park, 333 Larch Lane

Details about Water Week activities can be found at LexingtonKY.gov/WaterWeek.

Water Week is sponsored by the City of Lexington, Kentucky Water Resources Research Institute, the Tracy Farmer Institute for Sustainability and the Environment and UK College of Agriculture, Food and Environment.
