Mayor Linda Gorton today invited the public to join the City’s Lex Do This! COVID-19 vaccine campaign.
“The vaccine is our way to say good-bye to COVID-19,” Gorton said. “I am encouraging everyone to not only get the vaccine when it’s their turn, but to help spread the word and encourage others to take this vital step in fighting COVID-19 in our community.”
The Mayor’s Vaccine Task Force, co-chaired by Chuck Mix and Lexington-Fayette County Commissioner of Health Dr. Kraig Humbaugh, developed the Lex Do This! campaign over the past several weeks. With the generous support of Cornett, the Blue Grass Community Foundation, United Way of the Bluegrass, Monster Color, Lynn Imaging, and many media partners, the campaign’s goal is to reach out across Lexington to encourage each person to take the safe, effective COVID-19 vaccine when it’s your turn.
“Getting involved in Lex Do This! is as easy as sharing a post or a photo or a video explaining why getting the vaccine is important to you. For me, it’s being able to hug my children and grandchildren. For our community, it’s so we can get back to school, reopen the economy, attend worship services, see friends, enjoy family gatherings, enjoy holidays, and so much more.”
The Lex Do This! campaign involves outreach through social media, television, radio, print media, billboards, and more. Individuals, businesses, and organizations are encouraged to spread the word through social media posts explaining why it’s important to get the vaccine. The posts can include a video or by simply sharing a Lex Do This! campaign image. Use the hashtag #LexDoThis in social media posts. There is a digital toolkit located at lexingtonky.gov/vaccines where free graphics and videos can be downloaded.
Businesses and organizations can also request free printed posters by sending an email to mayor@lexingtonky.gov.
