February 11, 2022 – UPDATE: The Kentucky State Police has authorized the Lexington Police Department to release
the names and photos of the 3 officers involved in the officer-involved shooting that occurred on February 5, 2022.

The officers names, ranks, and length of service are as follows:

Officer Junior Pauleus

  • Length of Service: 8 months
  • Officer Pauleus sustained a non-life-threatening injury from a gunshot during the incident.
    He has since been released from the hospital.


Officer Daniel True

  • Length of Service: 6 years
     

Officer Jacob Webster

  • Length of Service: 6 years
  • Officer Webster was the officer that returned gun fire. (No one was injured)

February 9, 2022: The Lexington Police Department has charged 3 juveniles in connection with the officer-involved shooting that took place on February 5, 2022.

 

Lexington Police is prohibited from identifying the suspects because they are juveniles, but their ages and charges are as follows:

 

16 Year-Old Male:

  • Assault – 1st Degree - Police Officer
  • Attempted Murder - Police Officer (3 counts)
  • Wanton Endangerment – 1st Degree (5 counts)
  • Possession of Handgun by Minor
  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon
  • Criminal Mischief – 1st  Degree
  • Trafficking in Controlled Substance – 1st Degree (with firearm)
  • Trafficking in Marijuana (with firearm)
  • Receiving Stolen Property (firearm)

 

17 Year-Old Male:

  • Possession of Handgun by Minor
  • Trafficking in Controlled Substance – 1st  Degree (with firearm)
  • Trafficking in Marijuana (with firearm)
  • Receiving Stolen Property (firearm)

 

17 Year-Old Male:

  • Possession of Handgun by Minor
  • Trafficking in Controlled Substance – 1st  Degree (with firearm)
  • Trafficking in Marijuana (with firearm)
  • Receiving Stolen Property (firearm)

 

All 3 juveniles are currently detained in a juvenile detention facility.

February 5, 2022: A Lexington Police officer has been involved in an on-duty shooting.

 

At approximately 12:50 p.m. Saturday, February 05, 2022, officers observed four juveniles believed to be involved in a shooting from an earlier date. The juveniles were seen in the 1000 block of Newtown Pike. Officers approached the juveniles to conduct an investigation. During the investigation, one of the juveniles fired a weapon striking an officer. Another officer returned gun fire, no one was injured.

 

The officer was wearing a ballistic vest and was transported to the hospital with a reported  non-life-threatening injury.

 

Three juveniles have been detained. This investigation is still ongoing.

 

In accordance with Lexington Police Department policies, the officer had their issued Body Worn Camera activated.  The incident is being investigated by the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team and the department’s Public Integrity Unit will conduct an internal review of the incident. The officer will be placed on administrative assignment pending the outcome of the investigation.
