Streets & Roads and Water Quality crews focused on ranked neighborhood roads and neighborhood collector streets today. The night crew will address any refreezing and any ranked roads still untreated. Both divisions are using brine trucks to retreat major roads in anticipation of accumulating snow tonight. Staff will continue with monitoring and treating efforts as needed.
Residents should take extra caution when driving this evening. The wet roads will refreeze as temperatures drop and create icy driving conditions. Take it slow and stay off the roads if possible. The extreme cold will return with a wind chill as low as zero tonight. Remember that extreme cold temperatures require additional precautions. Wear multiple layers when going outside and limit exposed skin by wearing a hat, gloves, and face coverings.
Between 5 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. this afternoon, the Lexington Police Department responded to 34 non-injury collisions, four injury collisions, eight traffic hazards and 15 calls for motorist assistance.
