Records Center & Archives
The Records Center and Archives handles the storage and retrieval of Lexington city records. These are records of the city's business. The off-site storage facility contains more than 15,000 units of the city's government records and archival materials.
These records are open to the public and city employees for research and inspection under Kentucky public records law. Access to the Records Center & Archives is by appointment only.
General Open Records Request
City records are open to the public and city employees for research and inspection under Kentucky public records law. You can request open records by filling out an open records request.
Open records request are only accepted via USPS mail, in-person or fax (859) 258-3393. Open record requests sent via email are not accepted.
For other Open Records
Although they are departments of the City, the Fire Department and Police Department maintain their own records. If you are looking to request a copy of a 911, fire, or police report, please send your request directly to the appropriate agency.
