Bulky item pickup is a free service for households with city waste collection services. Most bulky items – including mattresses, box springs, appliances and tire collections – can be collected from the curb on your regular collection day.
To schedule a special item collection, call LexCall at 311 or (859) 425-2255. You can also submit a service request online or by using the LexCall mobile app. Pickups are normally made within five business days of your request.
Please consider donating items in good condition to a local charity, such as Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Salvation Army, Kentucky Refugee Ministries or Goodwill.
Special items
Appliances
Curbside pickup can be scheduled for appliances such as air conditioners (window units only), freezers, refrigerators, water heaters, washers, dryers and stoves. Appliances containing Freon will be accepted, but appliances containing oil are not. Collected items will be recycled.
The city does not offer curbside collection for humidifiers, TVs, microwaves, computers, printers and other electronics. These items can be taken to the Electronic Recycling Center.
You should:
- Schedule a pickup by contacting LexCall
- Remove doors from refrigerators and freezers
- Place appliance at the curb for collection
Another way to recycle appliances could be the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. If you are interested, contact them directly.
Box spring and mattress
Place your box spring and/or mattress on the curb, flat on the ground, beside your carts. They will be picked up on your normal collection day.
Make sure the item is not blocked by vehicles, fire hydrants, trees, cable wires or other objects.
Bed mattresses and mattresses from sleeper sofas may be collected separately due to possible bug infestation. Please call LexCall if there are bugs on your item.
Grills
We can take grills at the curb as long as all charcoal/gas tanks are removed.
Tires
The city will pick up to four small truck or car tires a week from homes that receive city collection services. Schedule a pickup by contacting LexCall. Place your tires on the curb. The tires must be off the rims.
