Building permits are required for all in-ground swimming pools in Lexington-Fayette County.
Public and private pools are regulated under Section 3109 of the Kentucky Building Code, Appendix “G” of the Kentucky Residential Code, the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Zoning Ordinance, and other requirements as appropriate. Generally those persons wishing to construct a swimming pool must submit a completed application showing the location of the pool on the lot, a construction drawing of the pool, and a Health Department approval.
Public pools may have additional requirements. In addition, inspections will follow ensuring compliance with applicable codes and ordinances.
