Reforest sites over the years

Reforest at Home

Reforest at Home provides free tree seedlings for Fayette County residents to plant in their own yards, with a limit of five trees per household. Limited quantities will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be large shade species and flowering ornamental species available. With a limit of two flowering ornamental species per household.

Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Species: Eastern redbud, pawpaw, flowering plum, persimmon, pecan, Shumard oak

  • Shillito Park
    300 W. Reynolds Road (Shelter #1, by the pool)
  • Jacobson Park
    4001 Athens Boonesboro Road (Shelter #6, backside of the pond, near the pine forest)
  • Living Arts and Science Center
    362 N. Martin Luther King Blvd. (Park on Silver Maple Way, Elm Tree Lane, or in Lexington Traditional Magnet School's parking lot)

Help us manage our planting sites!

There are more than 20 ‘Reforest the Bluegrass’ sites in Fayette County, covering over 200 acres of land. Invasive plants outcompete our native trees and shrubs reducing overall site diversity and limiting the ecosystem benefits provided by an intact, native woodland.

  • Around 65% first-year survival rates
  • Fewer than $175,000 of local government funds spent

  • If plantings had been contracted out, they would have cost $1.2 million.
